POSTCARDS FROM THE PAST - with updated links to The Festival of the Sound & The Collingwood Music Festival
Inspired by messages only recently translated on old family postcards dating from Russian Revolution through WWII, Alan Stein has created a series of original charcoal drawings and paintings highlighting real and imagined events from his grandparent’s lives. These images enhanced by old family photographs, reproductions of the postcards themselves and a selection of photographs from the Hendryk Ross collection at the Art Gallery of Ontario, will be projected during live performances this summer at the Collingwood Music Festival July 9, and the Festival of the Sound, July 24.
Conceived by Alan Stein in collaboration with James Campbell, Artistic Director of the Festival of the Sound. Music selected by musical director Daniel Vnukowski, Collingwood Music Festival, with video design and editing by Gerry McIntosh.
The performance features renowned Canadian musicians performing an array of works to complement the narrative thread, including heart-warming Yiddish songs, profoundly moving children’s poems set to music, and stirring works by a variety of composers including; Weill, Glick, Warshawsky, Laitman, Bloch, Weinberg, Kreisler, Schoenberg and Mendelsshohn., and Graham Campbell. Starring Andrea Ludwig, soprano; Daniel Vnukowski, piano; James Campbell, clarinet; Moshe Hammer, violin; Jaclyn Grossman Yiddish narrator and soprano.
